Five years in the making, we’re finally taking the next step.
KHC is transitioning to a Level 4 Clinic.
We’re building an operating theatre.
To get it done, we’ll need your help.

Since 2012, KHC has been providing safe, high quality, locally-led healthcare to the people of Otuke and its surrounds. We’re so proud of our staff and the massive impact of their work in the community.
As it stands, critical medical emergencies require a 2 hour trip to the nearest hospital in Lira—time that many patients simply don’t have.
We want this to change.
In 2025, with the help of our generous donor community, and our strategic partners Ancient & Brave and AUCF, we’re going to upgrade a whole host of facilities so we can operate at full capacity, and most importantly, provide the highest quality emergency care to the communities of Otuke.
Our strategic partners are making the construction of the theatre and our level 4 transition a reality.
It’s a massive upgrade.
To complete the transition to level 4 status under Ugandan Health Department guidelines and provide a full suite of emergency care services, we’re completing a whole host of renovations and new construction in addition to building an operating theatre:
Upgraded Maternity Ward
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
New Women’s Patient Ward
New Men’s Patient Ward
Laboratory
New Senior Clinical Officer’s Office
Mortuary
Upgraded Delivery Suite and Recovery
Dental Clinic
New and upgraded hallways and walkways
Cafeteria
Years in the making, here are the final plans for the theatre at KHC.
How we got here.
Since opening KHC in 2012, over 75,000 patients have been treated, and over 1,500 babies safely delivered by our team. We’ve provided essential antenatal and postnatal care to thousands of mums, including breastfeeding support and health education, along with outreach operations which offer KHC care to remote communities in need.
Our goal for KHC has always been to provide the communities of Otuke district with all of the safe, clean, qualified care that they need and deserve. It’s a massive goal, and to make sure we stay on track to reach it, we’ve had a strategic plan in place for the last 3 years to guide our growth.
The final step in this plan is the transition to a level 4 clinic and the construction of an operating theatre on site, which will allow us to handle medical emergencies, especially for women during pregnancy and birth. Being able to handle emergencies on site will eliminate a dangerous 2 hour journey for mothers in situations where every second counts.
This milestone has been a long time coming.
In 2022, we sat down with our Chief Medical Officer, Daniel Ayii, to talk about the KHC story, its massive impact, and his hope to provide vital emergency care to the communities of Otuke.
2 years later, we’re finally getting ready to make that dream a reality.
The theatre is the culmination of a 13 year strategic journey.
Since opening our doors in 2012, we’ve followed a strategic plan in scaling operations that prioritises quality of care, sustainability, and commitment to our long-term goals for the communities of Otuke.
We’re hoping to break ground in February 2025, and we’re excited to bring our community along for our journey to Level 4.
